| Saba is a small business owner who also has been very actively involved in District 204. Her desire to serve her community by volunteering for educational foundations, parent organizations and scholarship organizations is a part of her commitment to families in her district. She also serves as Member of the Public Health Board for the DuPage County Health Department. Saba knows that providing social and safety services for DuPage residents supports individuals and families and improves our communities.
As part of addressing public health needs, DuPage County recently broke ground for its Crisis Recovery Center (CRC). The CRC will be located on the county campus in Wheaton and serve individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. The CRC will be staffed by counselors and others who can address behavioral health crises. Emergency rooms have seen increases in visits for teens and younger children because of mental health crises. The CRC will help reduce unnecessary emergency room visits. And because the opioid epidemic remains a problem in DuPage County, helping people to access treatment when they are in crisis due to substance use will support those individuals and reduce demands on law enforcement. The CRC will cost $25.8 million to build with $15.3 million provided by the DuPage County Board from the American Rescue Plan Act, $5.5 million from the Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, $5 million from the Health Department and $1 million from Congressman Casten allocating funds to DuPage. It is scheduled to open in the Summer of 2025.
As a Member of the County Board, Saba will continue to support projects like the CRC, which addresses a variety of social and safety needs in DuPage and is responsibly funded.
