Greetings!

We know, it's still summer, but now is a great time to show you what's on the horizon and, at least, let you know where the outlets are when you are ready to get plugged in! SPECIAL THANKS to everyone who has stayed plugged in completely during this transitional period: volunteering for the golf outing, marching in July parades, keeping their townships moving forward and walking for or being candidates!

FOR NOW, keep enjoying the wonder of summer and plug in when and where you are ready. The election cycle is HEATING UP and there will be plenty of fun for everyone!

JULY 27-31 we will be represented handsomely at the DuPage County Fair and we hope you will stop by and say HELLO to our volunteers. IF YOU HAVE BEEN thinking about getting on board as a neighborhood organizer or volunteer, be sure and sign up on the list at the fair and get a special gift from DPDC.

ON AUGUST 26th, our Women and Minority Outreach Committee will be celebrating the 96th anniversary of suffrage for women with an amazing seminar on WOMEN EMPOWERING WOMEN. Watch for details very soon.

In 1835, William Briggs Greene acquired 200 acres of present-day Greene Valley Forest Preserve from Daniel Greene, his uncle. When surveyors mapped the land in 1840, they reported how they "left Brill's wheat field and entered hazel and red oak brush and scattering timber." This and other descriptions of stunted oak trees mixed with thorn thickets and wooded ravines offer an idea of how the area once looked.

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County first purchased land at the site in 1926. An acquisition in 1969, the same year that the District officially named the property, added the historic Oak Cottage, the 1841 farmhouse that William Greene had built. By the mid-1970s, the District had completed its acquisitions at Greene Valley Forest Preserve.
