  Congressman Keith Ellison Keynotes our
2017 Gala on Sunday, April 23

Greetings!

Never has our DuPage Democratic Party had so many deeply committed and qualified people getting things done. Below you will get a quick sense of what the Democratic Party of DuPage has been creating in JUST THE MONTH AND A HALF that has transpired between today and Jan 9th, 2017. Thanks to all the action groups and their leaders
AND TO YOU who are about to join one or more of these tremendous folks getting  so much done in our quest to meet our 3 Goals for 2018:

Regain control of the Governor's Office and, thus, the 2020 remap
Elect 6 TOP QUALITY County Board Candidates to make a swing block
Teach every motivated Dem (and there are lots!) exactly how to move every voter in their neighborhood in EVERY ELECTION!

As if that weren't exciting enough, we still have a wonderful SPRING Gala to look forward to and a crack team planning every moment, so get tickets while you can (last minute purchases may not be an option this year).

This article in MOTHER JONES about Mr Ellison will probably be a good convincer for you. Remember, if you are a current member (through April 2017) or become a member before you purchase your gala tickets, you can get our special Members-Only price link.

A BROCHURE FOR TABLES AND SPONSORSHIPS CAN BE FOUND HERE  (please share with family and friends!)

A quick note from Gala co-Chair, Michelle Gale:

I'm Michelle Gale, co-lead of the Gala Action Group, and I'm excited to share that we are running our largest gala ever, with Keith Ellison as our keynote speaker!

I'm asking for your help to make this gala the ultimate community-building event, inspiring and encouraging Democrats like you! We are the resistance. We need your help to spread the word and raise funds to WIN BLUE in 2018.

3 ways you can help Turn DuPage Blue right now:
  1. Send the brochure above to your contacts list, friends, and any business owners / non-profit connections you know. They will want to know!
  2. Visit our Facebook Event, RSVP yourself, and "share event" to all your Democrat/Chicagoland friends, and on your page! They need to know so they don't miss it! (I shared it with 100 friends just yesterday!)
  3. Tell every Dem you know - on the street, at the office, and in the grocery store - to visit dupagedemocratsgala.com and get their tickets before we sell out!
Thank you in advance for CARING & FIGHTING to Turn DuPage Blue, get 6 Democratic women on County Board & elect a Democratic governor!

MEET OUR NEW PROGRAM DIRECTOR!
Choose your Action Group today.
Meet our New Program Director, Dawnn Basaraba!

Many of you already know and love this ball of fire who has really turned up the heat for the DPDC with her work on the Gala, as the Chairman of the Bloomingdale Township Democrats and as the mastermind behind the Hillary Clinton Operation that helped HRC win in DuPage by 15 points!
We are so proud and pleased to announce that Dawnn has accepted a new leadership role as DPDC Program Director. Dawnn oversees the vital Strategic Action Groups (below) which would hardly exist without all the love, enthusiasm and time she has put into helping create them and our magnificent January 9th event. When you see her, please give her a congratulatory hug (she will love it!).

YOUND DEMOCRATS

We're making some progress in the Young Dems group.

As of today, we've reached out to lead social studies and government teachers in high schools all across the county. Our goal here is to set up a fellowship on a semester basis, to keep a steady flow of young volunteers moving through our office.

YDs are doing an awesome job getting college students plugged into the College of DuPage Democrats group. We're also coordinating with Democratic organizations at other colleges to bring in volunteers for events and our upcoming local elections.

VOTEBUILDER

Vote Builder group has been focused on getting Vote Builder group members trained on the basics to VB. Me and two other members attended an admin training of VB run by ILDCCA and Ken Kimber, the state's voter file admin. We are next going to focus on learning "my campaign" side to VB and gauging whether to use it for keeping all of our volunteers organized. From there, we'll work with members to designate which volunteers are a township's go to vote builder. WANT TO LEARN TO USE THIS GREAT TOOL? Click here

SOCIAL MEDIA
Our group has been very enthusiastic and has been working very hard!
· We are merging all of the Facebook pages into one for consolidated and consistent coverage
·         The group has divided up to take responsibility for content sourcing and creation for all social media pages
·         Social media content repository and posting calendars have been created
·         Steps are currently being taken to update the website

COUNTY BOARD TEAM
DuPage County Courthouse - sm.
We have created a FB page for our group and we communicate through the page.

We have had good turn out at DuPage County Board meetings.

Several people have given thoughtful public comments during the meetings.

We have had a few people attend committee meetings.

The board members are noticing the people in attendance.

PHONE BANKING

Phone banking has already begun and we have all sorts of causes to support and connections that we want to make to capitalize on all the energy in the air. Would you like to help the Phone Bank Action Team?

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS
Office Volunteers have identified meeting spaces within the Main Office and Annex, created a calendar to reserve meetings, cleaned the office, developed office etiquette rules, updated the Volunteer Informational Handbook, conducted an orientation meeting for approximately 25 office volunteers and obtained a new contract for enhanced internet and WiFi service. We are currently in the process of developing the office volunteer schedule to staff the office, organizing the office to be more neat and professional and working on the install of the enhanced internet and WiFi service.

MEMBERSHIP/
SPONSORSHIPS

January was the best membership month in, we believe, the history of this organization and will continue to be a priority for two reasons:
People who have even a small financial skin the game, take greater ownership (Many of our new members came in at 5 or 10 per month. WONDERFUL!)

As we focus on the gala, we are making sure all democrats in DuPage who would like to see Keith Ellison on April 23rd now they can receive a nice discount on that ticket by being a Blue ($50/year) or a Gold ($100/year) member.

ELECTION PROTECTION
Preparing to run election protection operation for the April Municipal Election.
Monitoring the goings-on at the Election Commission.
EP is developing our key initiatives and will form groups and assignments. In the meantime, all members have been requested to do g-suite training so we can go virtual.
Voter suppression will be something we look into heavily.
DATA TEAM
We have been analyzing the registration and voter records (>750,000 registered voters) for all of the townships in the County.  To date we have identified the precincts in Wayne and Lisle townships that have the highest percentages of registered Democrats as well as the precincts with the highest percentages of Democratic ballots requested in the 2016 primary.  This has been sent to the Ground Team and we will use this data to precisely target voting blocks and reach voters by phone.

WOMEN AND MINORITIES OUTREACH
Women and Minorities Outreach- this week on February 24, 2017, we are hosting UCARE's event- Behind the Veil: Women's roles in Islam. We are at capacity and still receiving several requests to attend! More events ahead so if you

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM
Communications group met, reviewed our mission and divided into subgroups who started planning. ELECTED OFFICIAL
LIAISON
The Elected Officials Liaison Team had our first team meeting last night to layout group norms and expectations, then we got started on our first training session for building relationships with elected officials! Our first action item for the week is to follow up on Gala invitations to elected officials, with a special focus on securing sponsorships! Over the next month our volunteer team will continue to brainstorm ways in which we can strengthen the bridge between our membership and their representatives, adding value for our members, inspiring sustained participation in our organization, and increasing support for our shared goals.

Funneling all of the motivation and energy that has been inspired by recent events is very exciting and, yep, you guessed it, costly. If you have not yet made a contribution to the Democratic Party of DuPage--$5/month is delightful--please do so now. If you have recently joined, you should have or will be receiving your membership card in the mail soon.

We are all in this together and our world will be changed for the better because of each of us.

Appreciatively,
