December 22, 2016

It's been a disheartening year in many ways and it would be foolish not to acknowledge that fact---aside from the reality that denial makes it harder to address what needs to change. However, we have a resurgence of people who are ready to create government for and by the people so that the real essence of the American Dream will not perish from this earth. We can do it. But we must each take that first step and then another toward this new horizon. The darkest day of the year has passed and we move on into the light together. We wish you a season of sharing and peace.

Greetings!

We send a plentitude of wishes to you for a holiday filled with gratitude and laughter. We look forward to seeing you LOTS in the New year.

MEANINGFUL HOMEMADE GIFTS FOR THIS SPECIAL SEASON

If you love journaling, share your writing joy with family and friends by giving each a unique, handmade personal journal. A simple spiral notebook dressed up with paper, fabric, photographs, or other embellishments will give your loved ones a special place to record their private thoughts.

When you sew medicine bags for the people you care about, you can rest assured your gift will always be close to their hearts. A small pouch can be filled with many meditative or symbolic items, such as quartz crystals, sage, or magical objects.

Give the gift of serenity with a guided meditation you create and record to CD or tape. Your loved ones will take pleasure in being led through tranquil landscapes by the soothing sound of your voice.

Hand-crafted ornaments that can be hung on trees, in windows, and on walls afford you an opportunity to surround the important people in your life with beauty. Whether you prefer to work with clay, crystals, fabric, baked dough, or natural objects, your gift can serve as a calming focal point in your loved ones' homes.

Thank you for doing your part to help grow our message of caring for all and, as the Salvation Army says, "Doing the Most Good". This, of course, can be read two ways but the bottom line is that we at DPDC believe in DOING THE MOST GOOD and DOING GOOD FOR THE MOST. And, not surprisingly, most Americans understand that a country as great as ours can be and will be MUST embrace such an generous and encompassing philosophy. Glad to have you on the team. Let's do some good.

William Burnham Woods was a United States Circuit Judge and an Associate Justice of       United the States Supreme Court as well as an Ohio politician and soldier in the Civil War.

Greetings!

Despite what you may feel about the recent election, we hope you know that only 38% of people in DuPage voted for Donald Trump. Most of our neighbors are still sane and those who aren't, well, we have to give them a pass for now as we work with the others. MANY new messages come into our inbox and voicemail every day with people expressing the need to really dig in together now to push back on the negativity of these times with positive action. We hope YOU are one of those who understand that this is the truly the ONLY way to stave off the depression and cynicism that only benefits the dark side. (See the PS below for other actions you can get involved with right now).

We have a structured plan for defeating Rauner's ruinous agenda, powering up the county board and more and, mostly, we have a positive, action-oriented team that we want you to be on

Mix Big Actions with Random Acts of Kindness and We're Half Way Home

Thanks Wayne Dems for alerting us to this fine piece!

Here are the first 10 to get you started!

1. Tweet or Facebook message a genuine compliment to three people right now.
2. Bring doughnuts (or a healthy treat, like cut-up fruit) to work.
3. While you're out, compliment a parent on how well-behaved their child is.
4. Don't write the angry internet comment you're thinking of writing.
5. When everyone around you is gossiping about someone, be the one to butt in with something nice.
6. Cook a meal or do a load of laundry for a friend who just had a baby or is going through a difficult time.
7. If you walk by a car with an expired parking meter, put a quarter in it.
8. Put your phone away.
9. Hang out with the person who just moved to town.
10. Offer a homeless person your leftovers bag from the restaurant.
