Join us at the DuPage Democrats picnic on Sunday, September 22

Democratic Party of DuPage County

DuPage Democrats Annual Picnic

Sunday, September 22, 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Our picnic is this Sunday, September 22nd from noon to 3 PM at the Hidden Lake Forest Preserve in Downers Grove. Please bring your family and friends to gather to celebrate our work electing Democrats. Encourage your Democratic neighbors to come to this free fun event.

We will have a fun door prize: 2 tickets to See Hilary Clinton at the Auditorium Theater at 7 PM on October 13th! (These are donated by a longtime DuPage Democrat who remembers when we weren’t so blue and appreciates the work everyone is doing to get out the vote)!

Thank you to Susan Steinmiller and her Picnic volunteer team who have again worked hard to make this celebration happen!

We understand that candidates and supporters are doing fieldwork and have events and will attend as they can. We know that your work as PCs takes time from your family and friends and hope the Picnic gives you an opportunity to relax for a moment and have some fun with family and friends!

Harris/Walz Yard Signs

Harris Walz signs arrived and we have another batch on order. The printers are still extremely busy and backlogged, but everyone is doing their best to get them done. Everyone who picked up their signs has been so happy and we heard many stories about how expensive or delayed it is to get signs online!

Reminder: At the DPDC office, we have our blue Vote Democratic signs that are free and we are glad for you to put them out and give them out. The QR code that is on them goes to the DPDC website candidates page.

Spotlight - Lucy Chang Evans & Lester Vaughan

Candidate Spotlight!

DuPage County District 3

Re-Elect Lucy Chang Evans for County Board

Elect Lester Vaughan for Forest Preserve

In DuPage County, we have six county government districts. District 3 is centered in Westmont and includes most of Darien, Downers Grove, Woodridge, Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, and Willowbrook, plus parts of Lisle & Naperville. It’s basically the most Southeast district of DuPage. Here’s a map!

Map

Lucy Chang Evans for DuPage County District 3

Lucy Chang Evans, a current Democratic County Board member, is up for re-election and deserves your vote. Lucy Chang Evans might deserve re-election just because of her extensive community outreach but she does so much more!

As a former secret service agent, Lucy Chang Evans’ commitment to public safety is an integral part of her approach to serving DuPage County. Lucy has earned the Gun Sense candidate distinction for her support of common sense gun laws.

For all of DuPage, residents appreciate that our Democratic-majority County Board is fully funding law enforcement to maintain public safety. What’s more, the County Board is consistently improving technology and systems that support our public safety. Lucy Chang Evans chairs the Judicial and Public Safety Committee.

Lucy Chang Evans also is a civil engineer, and prior to serving on the County Board, she worked for DuPage County in the Stormwater Management Department until she left to obtain her MBA. On the County Board, she focuses on areas that use her expertise: she is also a Member of the Transportation Committee, Environmental Committee, and Intergovernmental Committee.

When the DuPage County Board committed to improving services for a traditionally underserved area, the Board allocated funding. Board member Evans, however, also monitors how funds are being used and pushes for progress that serves the residents as the funding is intended to do. She is not just present at events for pictures, she is doing the work, listening to residents, and following up on community issues. Her approach to her district is one of complete engagement.

Lester Vaughan is the Democratic candidate for Forest Preserve Commissioner in DuPage District 3, and he deserves your vote.

Lester Vaughan for Forest Preserve, District 3

Lester Vaughan is the Democratic candidate for Forest Preserve Commissioner in DuPage District 3, and he deserves your vote.

Lester Vaughan brings a wealth of experience and understanding of environmental issues. As a resident of Darien, while he was an Alderman, he proudly partnered in the fight for clean air with the community group Stop Sterigenics. Area residents know a group of concerned citizens fought a long battle against the elevated cancer risks affecting residents in part of District 3, and Lester chose to stand with them to secure better environmental conditions for residents.

Lester Vaughan championed making Darien more walkable, including through sidewalk programs that connected residents with community parks and Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve.  His experience in government, his commitment to environmental safety, and his commitment to protecting the accessibility of DuPage’s green spaces make Lester Vaughan the best candidate for Forest Preserve in District 3.

Democratic Party of DuPage County Newsletter 09/18

Democratic Party of DuPage County

Weekly Newsletter

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Across America, from September 15 through October 15, we celebrate the richness of the Hispanic community. This community includes people of Mexican, Caribbean, Central American, and South American descent. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of the independence of Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

At the DuPage County Board meeting last week, Chair Deb Conroy issued a proclamation in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month and highlighted the many cultural and educational organizations that celebrate DuPage County's Hispanic residents. These organizations include the Center of the Blue Promise, the Mexican Cultural Center of DuPage, the DuPage Hispanic Alliance, and the Naperville Sisters Cities Foundation. The proclamation recognizes that “for generations, Hispanic Americans have played a pivotal role in our country’s strength and prosperity.” The proclamation also noted that in DuPage County, the number of Hispanic/Latino residents has grown to 15 percent of the population, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.

Dr. Maria Sinkule is running for DuPage County Board, District 1. Dr. Sinkule was the first Latina to serve as President of The Illinois Association of School Social Workers. Her experience and focus on issues faced by all DuPage working families every day will make her a great representative on our DuPage County Board.

In DuPage County, we have many elected officials of Hispanic heritage, including Congressional Representatives Jesus "Chuy" Garcia and Delia Ramirez; State Senator Karina Villa; and State Representatives Norma Hernandez, Barbara Hernandez, and Dagmara "Dee" Avelar.

The National Museum of Mexican Art is located close to DuPage in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. the museum's admission is always free. It is opening a new exhibition this Friday, September 20th, "Dia de Muertos, Where the Past is Present." The exhibition is dedicated to Ray Patlan, a Chicago muralist. Pilsen's murals, visible throughout the neighborhood, are works of art and there are great self-guided walking tours. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage!
