Azam Nizamuddin is a candidate for DuPage Circuit Judge and he has an opponent in the primary election on March 17th. It’s important that voters think about the qualities that they believe are important as they consider their vote in the primary and on to the general election.
What qualities should voters look for in a candidate for Circuit Judge?
1. Well-rounded experience in all facets of the law and the court system.
Azam has over 20 years of experience as a practicing attorney. He has represented the accused and he has represented victims of domestic violence. He has practiced in criminal courts and in civil courts (Chancery, Divorce, Law Division, Probate) and in Federal Courts, including Bankruptcy courts. He has represented clients in DuPage County, Cook County, Lake County, Will County, Kane County, and McHenry County and Appellate Courts in Illinois, and also in the Federal Court in the Northern District of Illinois and the Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District. Azam has broad and deep knowledge and experience in the law and in courtroom procedures.

2. Devotion to the improvement of the quality of justice system
Azam walks the talk. He has been an active participant in proposing and supporting ways to improve our legal system for many years, by:
- Teaching continuing education courses to other attorneys and judges for the DuPage Bar Association for the past and the Cook County Circuit Court for many years
- Current Chair of the Civil Law Section of the DuPage County Bar Association
- Current Member of the Editorial Board of the DCBA Law Journal and past Editor-in-Chief of the Law Journal
- Member of the American Inns of Court of DuPage County
- Former Adjunct professor at Loyola University and Elmhurst College
- Sought after and frequent speaker on legal & constitutional issues to civic organizations and university students
3. Record of community involvement, civic, and professional responsibility
- Civic and interfaith leader for the past 25 years
- Recipient of an award for his pro-bono representation of a non-profit and provides pro-bono help to local organizations including one that helps people with disabilities

4. Judicial Temperament
A judicial candidate should show qualities of patience, open-mindedness, courtesy, tact, firmness, understanding, compassion, and humility.
