Born in Dothan, Alabama, on November 17, 1931, Mrs.Naomi Ruth Barber King was destined to become a woman of quiet dignity, strength, and support to her husband, her family, and her community. During the Civil Rights Movement, Mrs. and Rev. A.D.King together became the "quiet support" of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mrs. King and her family survived the bombings of their home and later their church, and Mrs. King remained a "quiet strength" to her husband and family. Today, Mrs. King is an author and speaks out on important issues of the day. She is also the Founder and Chair Emeritus of the Board of Directors of the A.D. King Foundation. Mrs. King is the recipient of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Rosa Parks Freedom Award, King for America Truth Finder Award, Hope Worldwide Living Legend Award, History Makers Award, and the Legacy Ladies' Tea Award. She has been featured in the AARP documentary, "Voices of Civil Rights." She is a member ofNAACP, SCLC, Priests for Life, Women of SCLC, SCLC Women, and American Bridge Association. She is theauthor of A.D. and M.L. King, Two Brothers Who Dared to Dream. At the age of 83, after 45 years of silence since her husband's death, Mrs. King began sharing her story with the world and unleashing her husband's legacy. She wants to keep relevant for future generations the history of the Civil Rights Movement that she lived and that changed the world and to empower and inspire the world's youth to retain hope and live their dreams. |
