The assassination of Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and the unconscionable and conspiratorial responses from some GOP elected officials, including Sen. Mike Lee, are a reminder that we are in a fight against tyranny. Melissa Hortman's legacy and the good she did in the world will live on. From the DLCC: "The wins she delivered for Minnesota families – from paid family medical leave, to protecting reproductive health care, to free school lunches for kids – were hard-fought, and they were done with a humor, humility, and grace that will be irreplaceable in the House chamber." It was inspiring that thousands in Minneapolis attended No Kings protests on Saturday despite knowing that the shooter had no yet been captured and was determined to murder Democrats and supporters of women's reproductive freedom in the area. As Trump focuses the cruel and indiscriminate ICE raids towards cities like Chicago, he's made it crystal clear that his cynical partisan goal is simply to further divide and weaken our nation to distract from the GOP's only consistent federal priority — depriving millions of American families access to food assistance and healthcare in order to transfer even more wealth directly into the pockets of the richest Americans. Thank you to those who have been protesting, volunteering and supporting our work to fight back right here in DuPage County. Now is the time to turn your anger into action.
