Affordable healthcare. Accessible healthcare. You’ve heard these terms time and time again. The Affordable Care Act (the ACA or Obamacare) improved some fundamentals of healthcare in America. The concepts in the ACA were not novel, and indeed the Republican party was familiar with, and previously approved, many of them. However, the will to improve healthcare for all Americans landed in the Democrats’ hands - as Republicans chose to stand down on this issue.
What’s the issue? Improving healthcare for all Americans. It’s the responsible approach to assist individuals and families, while it also helps employers and the economy.
No longer just standing down, the Republican party has chosen to go backwards. Proudly choosing Supreme Court judges that defy precedent, Donald Trump turned the clock back so that many women in America are not able to get an abortion. That’s the 1950s. But he went even further back- to the middle ages, because women in America are literally dying from inaccessible healthcare when they are pregnant.
Now, the Trump Vance team has made it clear that part of their plans for healthcare in America is to terminate the Affordable Care Act, ripping away healthcare from tens of millions of Americans. JD Vance affirmed he wants high risk pools - the mechanism which allows insurers to deny coverage or skyrocket costs for people with pre-existing conditions. Trump and Vance support Big Pharma raising the cost of prescription drugs. They’ll cut Medicare and Medicaid - negatively affecting more than 100 million Americans. And they will continue to ban abortion and threaten access to contraception and IVF. Trump’s political agenda and his plans for our government are solely focused on making the ultra rich richer, without regard to the majority of Americans.
Healthcare in America is one of the most important, complicated issues we face. Democrats face it by recognizing the opportunities for improvement. Republicans have decimated women’s reproductive care and want to take away the improvements created in the ACA, which will cost the American people. When we say “Not Going Back” - it’s because we have seen the effects of Trump. Vance brings more of the same old.
Trump & Vance are deadly serious about going backwards. Just ask some of the families of the women who have died because of Trump’s hostility for abortion. Restrictive policies mean higher maternal death rates. Trump’s and the Republican party’s renewed attack on the Affordable Care Act will expand the hurt to men, women and children across America.
The Democratic candidates in DuPage stand united against the Trump Vance attack on women and united in defending healthcare in America. VOTE YOUR ENTIRE BALLOT BLUE to support modernizing healthcare in America.
