SANGUINETTI DONATED TO JANUARY 6th INSURRECTION PARTICIPANT SANALITRO

Donation Made After Sanalitro's Anti-Election Extremism Publicly Exposed

With the next Jan. 6th Committee hearing this week and the fight to save democracy on the cover of Time Magazine, Sanalitro, who Republican County Clerk candidate Evelyn Sanguinetti, running to oversee elections in DuPage County, is strongly supporting 48th House District candidate Jennifer attended the insurrection in Washington, D.C. trying to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power.

On Sept. 19, 2022 journalist Rich Miller published a report in Capitol Fax detailing Sanalitro's attendance at the insurrection. As Miller reported, a since-deleted cover photo on Facebook shows Sanalitro standing in front of the U.S. Capitol holding a “Save America” sign as the violent mob marched on to attempt to stop the certification of the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election.

Capitol Fax associate Isabel Miller contributed additional reporting that Sanalitro has a history of far-right postings on Donald Trump’s MAGA website Truth Social. Topics of Sanalitro’s reported posts include alleged vote-stealing, a claim that an Antifa activist disguised himself as a Trump supporter during the Jan. 6 insurrection, and a claim that anyone who agreed with the FBI “raid” on Trump’s Florida residence is “traitorous to our country.”

How did Evelyn Sanguinetti respond to the revelations of Sanalitro’s anti-democracy record?

She gave Sanalitro a campaign contribution and endorsed her candidacy.

According to financial disclosures filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections, Sanguinetti made a donation to Sanalitro’s campaign fund on September 28th - nine days after the Capitol Fax report on Sanalitro’s participation in the insurrection. Sanguinetti’s continued support of Sanalitro should perhaps not come as a surprise, as social media photos show the two repeatedly posed together at each other’s fundraisers and other Republican events, as well as exchanging endorsements. (See attached photos.)

The greatest responsibility of the County Clerk's Office is to administer free and fair elections, but Sanguinetti's commitment to democracy is called into question by her support of election denier Jennifer Sanalitro.

"Republican candidates promoting the Big Lie, either blatantly or with a wink and a nod, are running to take over elections around the country. DuPage is no exception," DuPage County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek explained in a press release from her re-election campaign.

For four years, Bruce Rauner and Sanguinetti served as Illinois governor and lieutenant governor. In 2017, the conservative National Review called Rauner "the worst Republican governor in America." Now, after being defeated for re-election and then failing in a run for Congress in 2019, Sanguinetti has set her sights on this third different political office in four years.

"I watched the Jan. 6th insurrection live from my desk. Like most Americans, I was horrified. My heart was in my throat, agonizing over the safety of the leaders and staff within the Capitol, the future safety of my own staff, the fate of the country and democracy itself," Kaczmarek added. "What I never considered, and still can’t believe, was that my election opponent would strongly support an extremist who was on the ground with attackers against our nation's legislative cathedral. Yet, here we are. Democracy is on the ballot."
