Marian and Gary Tomlinson of Glen Ellyn have been extraordinarily active in Milton Township and DuPage Democratic politics for the past 15 years. Their work on behalf of DuPage Democrats has been collaborative and as seamless as a single individual; which is why they are being nominated as a couple.
Marian has served as precinct committee-person in Milton 62 since 2004. Her precinct work led to her being appointed Milton PC Coordinator. In 2010 she was elected Chair of the Milton Township Democrats, a position she held for 5 years before being term-limited in 2015. Milton Democrats, unwilling to lose her valuable service, elected her Milton Operations Officer, assisting the incoming Chair to continue the quest of turning DuPage and Milton Blue. As Operations Officer, Marian headed up our Nominations Committee to recruit candidates for office, organized the bi-annual petition drive to get recruited candidates on the ballot, and chaired the Election Committee to get those candidates elected. 2018 was the culmination of those efforts as 35 Democrats were elected in DuPage County.
Gary Tomlinson has served as acting precinct committee-person in Milton 50 for the past 15 years. An Election Judge, he has served for a decade as Election Judge Coordinator for all of DuPage County Democrats, recruiting hundreds of Democratic judges. A former recycling business owner, Gary coordinates the recycling of the innumerable yard signs after each election.
Together, Gary and Marian managed the Democratic Booth at the DuPage County Fair for many years. This involved physically setting it up, tearing it down and ensuring staffing throughout the Fair. For over a decade they also managed Milton Township Democrats participation in the Wheaton and Glen Ellyn July 4 parades. This involved setting up the Milton float, driving it in the parade, and recruiting the many walkers required to make Milton’s presence felt. They also coordinate the annual Milton Democrats picnic at Herrick Lake Forest Preserve. To handle this extensive outreach they host dozens of meetings each year in their historic 1846 Glen Ellyn home.
In summary, their energy, passion, dedication and good cheer has been without parallel in Milton Township and DuPage County. Did I mention that Marian and Gary are octogenarians with no intention of slowing down? Milton’s choice for the Pioneer Award: Marian & Gary Tomlinson.
