Friend, Get Inspired on Women's Equality Day, Get Ready to Help our Candidates Get on the Ballot and more...

Women's Equality Day
August 26 is celebrated as Women’s Equality Day because on this day in 1920, our country ratified the right of women to vote. This hard-fought struggle took almost 100 years.

Below are some quotes to inspire us all in the ongoing fight for equality.

DuPage Dems Difference Maker - Cheryl Hagerty
The shock of the 2016 election opened my eyes to the importance of community involvement outside of the school district which I have taught for the past 19 years. My husband and I went to the Women’s March held in Chicago and I knew I had to do more.

Shortly after, one of my young neighbors created the Carol Stream Huddle. I started hosting meetings at my home with like-minded voices for change. I also looked for opportunities of involvement with several other grassroots organizations, but I spent more time working with the Dupage Democrats immersing my time in canvassing opportunities.

As a matter of fact, the first person I canvassed for was Martin McManoman from Wayne Township. These canvassing opportunities led me to the Bloomingdale Township Democrats. I became the precinct committeeman in Carol Stream because it was important to me to help change Dupage County Blue.

I worked with different BTDO members promoting 2018 local and state candidates and also worked on promoting Sean Casten’s campaign. This good work led me to become the secretary for the Bloomingdale Township Democratic Organization where I have had the opportunity to volunteer my time with many new friends and community members.

We have been active in parades, fundraisers, canvassing door-to-door, and just getting the word out there that all cultures are welcome in our party and “hate has no home here.”
