Sean Casten speaks out against the Janus Decision
"Donald Trump is committed to appointing more judges who embrace the view that ‘corporations are people’ and actual people are at their mercy. Peter Roskam shares these views."

Hear from your reps

Even with all the other horrible things that are happening, it's important to remember that the president's administration still separating families at the border, and Trump's Executive Order doesn't change that. Here's what your reps have to say:
Liz Chaplin, Dem County Board Member

"I strongly condemn the separation of families. The policy of separating families is cruel and inhumane. I would urge lawmakers to continue to voice their opposition to this policy, and to insist that families that have been separated are reunited immediately."

She will be attending the Downers Grove Rally.

Sheila Rutledge, Dem Candidate for County Board in District 6

"I want to thank all of those who are attending the marches protesting the separation of families at our border. Show our representatives that we cannot abide by the inhumanity of this administrations actions. The issue of family members being torn apart is something my family and I are acutely aware of since the recent passing of my husband. I would so be there with all of you but a family celebration, now more important than ever will keep me from attending. I hope your voices are clear, loud and strong in your fight on this issue."
Lynn LaPlante, Candidate for DuPage County Board Chair

"As a mother of four young children, I am horrified by the new policies the current administration has enacted separating children from their parents at the border. It is my responsibility as a mother first and a political candidate second to STAND UP and SPEAK OUT against such barbaric and inhumane practices currently affecting hundreds of families. I am disgusted by the silence coming from local republicans, including my opponent. If elected Chairman of the DuPage County Board, I will continue my practice of standing up and speaking out up for the least among us—leading the way in DuPage County by showing that compassion and caring begins at home, in our own community. "

She'll be marching at Daley Plaza.
Zara Suratwala, Candidate for DuPage County Board in District 1

"Separating families is cruel and I condemn it absolutely. This policy promotes fear and does lasting damage to our society as a whole. We need to demand that our representatives oppose this policy, in adherence to the values that we all share."

Some thoughts..
Every time we sit down to make this email, it seems like something new goes wrong. As we finished putting together this week's blast, we found out about the shooting at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, our nation's 195th shooting this year.

There are times when it is really hard to feel anything resembling hope. These are trying times for everyone, especially those who have no power.

It's okay to feel sad, and it's okay to take time. It's okay to pause to hug your loved ones and to leave your phone for a bit. Do what you need to do to feel better.

But don't forget that it doesn't get better without you. We need every person who believes in democracy to be working relentlessly to get the right people in office. We need people who will represent us, not their own interests.

Take a minute. Then let's go.
