Greetings! (Contact First Name), As we think about the meaning of Memorial Day and take in the weight of what it means to send millions of people to war over the 200 plus years we have been a nation, we cannot, should not, avoid the sense of shared responsibility we have for that nation. We can be sad, we can be angry but we must be responsible.
What starts war? Belligerent or non-existent attempts to communicate. Misunderstood intentions. Hostilely interpreted gestures. Treating people as "Other".
What prevents wars? Taking a step back. Putting ourselves in someone's else's shoes. Trying to understand over hoping to be understood. Not jumping to conclusions. Listening. Remembering our shared humanity. The DPDC Summer Issue Canvass, a joint effort with Americans for Democratic Action, is one small step in the direction of a nation that creates peace instead of belligerence. And it is our shared responsibility that calls us to participate in constructive listening and community building.
Will you please join us this summer to create peace and stem the tides of war in your own way on your block?
We'll teach you a very low-key way to knock on doors and really find out what your neighbors care about. Along the way, you will find dozens of people--who also realize their shared responsibility toward our community- and have been waiting for your invitation to join in talking to their neighbors and supporting our three important GOALS of:
#1 creating a COMEBACK AGENDA for Illinois by electing a new governor #2 electing a solid 6 member swing block to the County Board and #3 giving every Democratic volunteer and precinct representative the tools to move their neighbors to the polls for all Democrats in all races in DuPage.
See you next Monday! Questions? Write to info@dupagedemocrats.com
