recent story the Chicago Tribune ran about the Chicago march, it's organizers, and a hat that has become a symbol for the resistance that is sure to pump you up before the big day.
NEW LOCATION!
The Rally is January 21, 2017, 10 am, at E Jackson Boulevard and S Lake Shore Drive (immediately south of Petrillo Bandshell in Grant Park).
The corner of E. Jackson Blvd and S. Lake Shore drive is the revised kick-off point. The stage will be located on S. Jackson Boulevard facing west rather than at the Bandshell to protect Grant Park from damage. The combination of unseasonably warm temperatures, rain earlier in the week, and anticipated large numbers of marchers threatened to turn the Petrillo's grassy field into a mud pit. The conditions make it necessary to move the stage and rally into the street instead of in the park itself.
Marchers are asked to gather on E. Jackson Boulevard. The stage will face west and back up to S. Lake Shore Drive. Drop off points will be on S Columbus at E Jackson, unless crowds force closure of Columbus. Jackson Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic from Lake Shore Drive to Columbus. There will be a disability access drop off point at Lake Shore Drive and Jackson.
Do you want to march with friends?
I'm hoping you will march with me.... I'm meeting my friends at the steps of the Chicago Cultural Center,
78 E. Washington, at the corner of Washington and Michigan, and at about 9:30 am we are going to walk over to the rally spot. You can reach me via email
nkohn@kohnconsulting.com or text me at 312-925-8067.
IWIL and EMILY's List will also be meeting at the steps of the Chicago Cultural Center before heading to the kick-off spot for the rally at 10am.
The Chicago-area section for the National Council of Jewish Women will be meeting at the Crown Fountain in Millenium Park at 9am before heading to the starting point.
Do you want to volunteer?
The organizers have told me that they are in need of volunteer marshals to help coordinate the large crowds expected that day -
click here to learn more. Marshals are an essential part of the safety team, and are required to participate in a training session this week.
Women's March on Chicago CONNECTS us as everyday champions of human rights for ourselves/others in our diversity. When we stand together, our strength multiplies and our voices must be heard.
Women's rights are human rights, which together we must PROTECT and further. Through our march, we send a message to our new administration and to the world that we seek to PROTECT our civil liberties and rights. We are here to ACTIVATE. Fairness, justice, and equality require rigorous defense and promotion, and are not yet won. We recognize lack of fairness, justice, and equality are suffered by some much more than others. We recognize the intersectionality of disadvantage and oppression. We need to work until fairness, justice, and equality are reality in all parts of society. With this march, we are committed to continue/ begin positive, peaceful ACTION in our lives and communities to move toward this goal, and to support others who do as well.
