Contribute Now! THE PASSING OF AN ILLINOIS ICON Walker in the Bud Billiken Parade 1973 Former Governor Dan Walker passed away within the last day or so (no formal obituary is on line yet). We send our condolences to Precinct Committeeman--and all around great Democrat--Dan Walker Jr. and the Walker family. Walker announced his candidacy for Governor of Illinois in 1971 and attracted wide attention by walking 1,197 miles across Illinois in 1971. He narrowly won the Democratic primary against then-Lieutenant Governor Paul Simon.  He lead a great populist movement which I know many of our DPDC members participated in personally. In this time where Rauner is trying to make sure NO ONE earns a living wage (except his staff), showing up to support workers is imperative. We don't have the millions some groups have access to but we can and will make a difference if we pull together."
