One Year Since Historic Wins for IL Democrats
Building on their historic success in 2022, Democrats have continued to deliver for Illinoisans, and are prepared and motivated to win in 2024
Remarkable wins in 2022 - Illinois Democrats:
- Kept every statewide office blue
- Elected a record number of Democrats to the General Assembly
- Flipped a Congressional seat
- Expanded the Democratic majority on the IL Supreme Court
- Passed the Workers’ Rights Amendment
- Won at the local level, including flipping a previous Republican stronghold, DuPage County, blue for the first time in nearly a century
- DuPage Democrats:

- elected Jenn Ladisch-Douglass for the 45th District of the Illinois House, defeating the Republican incumbent
- elected Delia Ramirez in the Illinois 3rd Congressional District, becoming the first Latina in the Midwest to go to Congress
Continuing to organize for success - DPI built on our momentum from 2022 by launching an unprecedented program to keep extremists out of school and library boards
- 73% of extremists DPI communicated against lost their races
- Illinois voters showed how their values align with those of our party
- DPI and IDCCA are partnering to recruit and train down-ballot candidates
- Democrats can’t win if they don’t run, so we’re making sure Republicans don’t go unchallenged
- Candidates in the program have access to trainings, expertise, tools, and resources to lead them to success next November
- We’ve seen great success at the federal and state level, and we are building on that momentum to elect even more candidates to local seats
- Chair Hernandez capped off a statewide tour with 20 stops that gave hundreds of Democrats the opportunity to hear about the party’s work and goals, and share feedback about what they want to see in their communities
- DPI is meeting Democrats where they are to make sure we spread our message, get out the vote, and engage passionate community leaders across the state
A Strong Record to Run On - Since last November, Illinois Democrats have:
- Passed a fifth consecutive balanced budget
- Passed first-of-its-kind legislation to ban book bans in Illinois
- Cracked down on “crisis pregnancy centers” which use deceptive practices to pressure women out of accessing abortion or other legitimate reproductive health care
- Required any company selling accident or health insurance in Illinois to cover abortion medication,
- Prevented users of automated license plate readers from sharing data with other states to enforce abortion bans
