TALKING POINTS Talking Points on Republicans' Extreme Agenda: - Republicans have made their priorities clear already. Here is their true agenda:
- Repeal key pieces of the IRA and make health care more expensive. Republicans have come right out and said it: They want to repeal efforts to lower health care, prescription drug, and energy costs, even if it means shutting down the government
- Ban abortion nationwide. Building on their earlier attempts and Kevin McCarthy’s promise, House Republicans introduced another bill to ban abortion nationwide. And Lindsey Graham wants to throw doctors and nurses in jail for providing health care services.
- Put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block. Sen. Rick Scott and the Republican Study Committee have introduced plans to sunset or roll back access to Social Security and Medicare. This is outrageous, but it isn’t new. Republicans for decades have attempted to dismantle Social Security and Medicare and now they are at it again.
- Repeal the Affordable Care Act. Republicans will again try to repeal the ACA. Sen. Ron Johnson has called for it if Republicans retake control of Washington, and the Rick Scott plan to sunset federal programs every five years could do it as well.
- Defund the DOJ and FBI. Hellbent on standing up for Donald Trump, Republicans have made numerous calls to defund the FBI, DOJ, and multiple other government agencies.
- Undermine democracy and cancel votes. Republicans have shown a relentless commitment to Donald Trump’s Big Lie, voting against ensuring what happened January 6 doesn’t happen again.
- And if that’s not bad enough, this Republican agenda can be seen through their NO votes on laws that address actual challenges people are facing:
- American Rescue Plan, which created record job growth and recovery, kept small businesses open, funded law enforcement and first responders, and many other things.
- Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is creating good-paying jobs while improving our nation’s infrastructure.
- Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the largest step forward on broadly popular commonsense gun reform in 30 years.
- CHIPS and Science Act which will reduce America’s reliance on foreign industry, boost our ability to compete with China, and secure supply chains through good-paying American manufacturing jobs.
- PACT Act, which will get critical health care to the brave veterans exposed to burn pits while serving in the military.
- The Inflation Reduction Act which is expected to curb inflation, lower costs like prescriptions drugs, and create jobs – setting families and America back on track and stronger than ever.
