Friend, Impeachment Notes, Holiday Party, Petitions and more...

Fellow Dems,

As Impeachment is a topic that consistently comes up at the doors and at Grassroots & Dem events, I thought I would relay a few thoughts on it.

Before I do, let me remind you that while Impeachment is an important political tool that exists to hold the President accountable and to ensure there are checks and balances within our government, we can and must both hold the President accountable AND do the people's work.

The Democratic Party of DuPage County is committed to ensuring we identify and engage all our voters for 2020, to ensure we can elect Democrats up and down the ballot who share our fight for Economic Justice, Civil Rights and Our Environment. This is true regardless of the outcome of the Impeachment Process.

Impeachment Thoughts

The most clear cut article of impeachment to me is that of bribery. Bribery is specifically mentioned in the constitution as an impeachable offense. The Bribery Statue includes the solicitation of a bribe (whether paid or not). Trump solicited a bribe. Trump asked for something of value in exchange for an official act.

Trump solicited a Public Announcement about "investigations" being opened by Ukraine that were politically advantageous to him personally, in return for the federally mandated Security Assistance passed by Congress and a meeting with the President.

Security Assistance was held up for months because of Trump's solicitation of a bribe, while Trump waited for his "payout".

On September 9, the House Intel Committee was made aware of an urgent concern from the Intel Inspector General after the Director of National Intelligence did NOT follow the rules for delivering the Whistleblower Report to Congress in the time window allowed.

On September 11, the administration released the hold of the Security Assistance, only after Congress was made aware of the Whistleblower Report.

Trump solicited a bribe, which is illegal and an impeachable offense. There may be other articles of impeachment, obstruction, lying to Mueller, etc... but Bribery is the most clear cut case. Trump's solicitation of a bribe from put Ukraine's and America's National Security at risk.

For anyone still supporting this President, you have turned your back on the Constitution, the Rule of Law and your Country. I am ashamed for you.

Sincerely,
Cynthia Borbas
