Be an LGBTQ+ Ally
It is important to be an LGBTQ+ Ally every month of the year, not just June.

How to be an Ally from the Human Rights Campaign
An “ally” is a term used to describe someone who is supportive of LGBTQ+ people. It encompasses non-LGBTQ+ allies as well as those within the LGBTQ+ community who support each other, e.g. a lesbian who is an ally to the bisexual community.

Local Organizations to Support

Naper Pride
Naper Pride is a family centered, Naperville focused, celebration of LGBTQ+ members of our city and community. Our goal is to bring together people from all walks of life- family, friends, neighbors, and allies in a celebration of inclusivity for ALL people of Naperville and the contributions LGBTQ+ individuals add to the diversity and quality of the lives we enjoy in our community.

Youth 360 Services
360 Youth Services provides life-changing services through substance abuse prevention education, counseling and housing.

Youth Outlook
Youth Outlook is the first social service agency in Illinois solely dedicated to the support of LGBTQ+ youth. We work in 6 counties in the Chicago suburbs, offering drop-in centers for youth, parent support, and community education.
Youth Collection Boxes - Coming in July
Starting in July, we will be setting up collection boxes for the following two initiatives. Please watch your emailbox and social media for more details. We will have these collection boxes at the DuPage Dems office and possibly other locations.

Youth 360 Services & Youth Outlook - Collection Box
Both these organizations help support the LGBTQ+ Youth in our Communities.

Children at the Border - Colleciton Box
Collecting Soap, Toothbrushes and Toothpaste for the Children in the deplorable Trump Camps at our border.
Join our Events Team
Want to contribute to DPDC fundraising and have fun at the same time? Join our growing Events Team! This team of great friendly people does all of the planning for the major fundraisers for the Dupage Democrats. We work on the Gala, the Holiday Party, the Golf Outing, the Annual Picnic, and several other smaller events every year.

We want to expand our team to be able to support more events, especially smaller events that are more accessible and interesting to a broader segment of our members. We are looking for people who want to contribute ideas and are willing to attend monthly meetings and either take charge of an event or help on a team.

If this sounds like you, please email Joanne Tyree at joanneiam1953@gmail.com. We look forward to working with you!
DuPage Dems Difference Maker - Mark Van Scharrel
Meet Mark Van Scharrel, PC in Lisle Township, Precinct 50, who doesn't have a huge resume with the Democratic Party, but I know he's a true Difference-Maker.

Mark was politically moved to action following the 2016 Election, together with his wife, Julie Ryan, to become an important part of the Lisle Township and DuPage Democrats; a two-fer if you will. They both have contributed in various ways ever since, with both the Organization and individual Democratic Candidates. Mark volunteered and was appointed as a PC, while Julie became part of our Communications and Documents Team.

As a speaker, writer, and pastor, Mark was qualified and didn't disappoint when he presented “Framing the Issues” at the September 2018 LTDO Monthly Meeting. Mark approaches communications with humor, intelligence, and conviction. His insights have helped move LTDO forward, particularly as to issue framing. As a PC he enjoyed talking to those in his precinct to great effect. He has been a generous supporter of DWDC, DPDC, LTDO and several other local political organizations. He has worked with several candidates as well. There isn’t a room Mark has walked into that he didn’t brighten.

Sadly, Mark was diagnosed with a serious form of cancer in early Spring. In conversation it was implied that he would likely not be able to continue on as a PC. However, Mark recently told me that he's been feeling better lately and wants to continue on, as he is able. Mark defines commitment and courage that leaves me humbled. Mark Van Scharrel is a Difference-Maker, indeed.
