A word from the Chair about the events of the evening Saturday. Putting things in Perspective
We are very pleased to have a group coming on Saturday from the Sudanese community including four of the Lost Boys of Sudan. These four, now men, survived the 1,000 mile journey from Sudan to Ethiopia in the late 80's during the civil war there. 20,000 young boys, most between the ages of 7-18, started that journey and 10,000 of them lost their lives trying to escape. Come and meet these incredibly brave individuals. The DPDC has reached out to the Sudanese community in DuPage and Chicago and hope to provide whatever help we can as their story gives perspective to our struggles in our own country and with other countries in the world.
Congressman Bill Foster will lead at the podium with his own perspective on what is the matter with Washington and how he intends to fix it with our support.
Finally, Governor Pat Quinn will be there to thank everyone for their work in his bid for election and his perspective on what we need to do now. Your handshake and smile of appreciation at the Gala will bouy him as he creates new projects to help the state he loves to serve. Congressional Representatives Duckworth, Kelly and Quigley will pop in early in the evening and we certainly have to smile about that ESPECIALLY from this perspective ...less than two presidential cycles ago, the only congress folks around were Roskam (Hyde) and Biggert.
NOW THAT'S SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE.
